IDRC President David Malone discussed reasons and remedies for rising food prices in India during his Millennium Lecture, “The Political Economy of Food Security,” at the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF) in Chennai, India.

M.S. Swaminathan, the foundation's founder and chairman who is credited as father of India’s green revolution, and the Hon. Barbara McDougall, chairman of IDRC’s Board of Governors, also spoke at the event.

Mrs. McDougall recently announced IDRC would contribute a CA$1.1 million grant to the MSSRF, a non-profit trust that seeks to harness science and technology for environmentally sustainable and socially equitable development.

The grant will help support the foundation’s coastal system research, bolster its human resources, and create a knowledge repository system.
