| IDRC and the World Trade Organization Ministerial |

Document(s) 8 of 10
The Road to Hong KongIn November 2001, the World Trade Organization (WTO) launched the Doha Round of trade negotiations. Dubbed the "development" round, it was meant to address issues of importance to developing countries, particularly those surrounding agriculture. The WTO ministerial meeting which takes place in Hong Kong 13–18 December seems unlikely to break the logjam and raises doubt about the future of the multilateral trading system overseen by the WTO.
IDRC in Hong Kong Rationalizing Regional Arrangements in the South – Before and After Hong Kong IDRC workshop at the Hong Kong Trade and Development Symposium organized by the International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development. - The failure of multilateral trade talks will not spell the end of trade agreements; they will continue but more likely on a regional and bilateral basis. IDRC-supported researchers who have examined these agreements will discuss the costs, benefits, and potential risks for developing countries.
