The WSIS Plan of Action: A Slideshow

At phase I of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) held in Geneva in December 2003, member states agreed on a Plan of Action to promote the use of information and knowledge for development, and to help countries bridge the digital divide.

The Plan's objectives are to build an inclusive information society, put the potential of knowledge and ICTs at the service of development, and ddress emerging challenges of the information society at the national, regional, and international levels.

Ten targets were set for 2015:

Adapt all primary and secondary school curriculums to meet the challenges of the Information Society, taking into account national circumstances

Connect all local and central government departments, and establish Web sites and email addresses

Connect health centres and hospitals with ICTs

Connect public libraries, cultural centres, museums, post offices and archives with ICTs
